  • Moving!

I am moving over to Blogger from Xanga. Eventually I will be deleting my Xanga account but not for awhile yet. I am copying over to Blogger the posts I want to keep from Xanga and that's taking longer than I expected so I won't be shutting down my account just yet. Blogger suits my blogging style better and more importantly, I can have a blog without skimpy, trashy ads on the side. I don't really care to shell out moolah for a Xanga premium membership either which would allow me to remove those ads. I can have a simple, clean blog on Blogger for free (so far, anyway) hence the move.

    Here's my new address:

    Week in Review

We got back not too long ago from an excursion to Toys R Us. I have a very low opinion of that place. Half the store was on clearance but you wouldn't have known it by looking at the prices; they're still so outrageous! I can go to Walmart and find something less expensive that is NOT on clearance than I can find on clearance at this store. Hannah had a gift card from Toys R Us which is why we went there. No surprise that she spent her gift card on princess and Tinker Bell items.

This past Tuesday I had a nice dinner out with a few of the other pastor's wives. It was a lot of fun and very refreshing to be in their company. I was in no hurry to get home after dinner so I stopped at a Target, bought a Starbucks coffee and just wandered aimlessly around the store, looking at anything and everything I pleased at my own pace, in quiet and solitude. I still was in no mood to go home when I needed to leave but being that I didn't want to make the morning news as a mom gone AWOL, I relunctantly headed home. And of course, the kids were just glorious for Philip. I wonder if he thinks that I make up the stories about their shenanigans.

Christian finished his last school assignment yesterday. He's now officially finished with 2nd/3rd grade! I can't believe it! I'm very proud of him too! This past year certainly had its ups and downs but nothing like 1st grade with him. This year was so much better I think in part because Hannah is getting older but also because of curriculum choice which fit Christian's personality and my inability to be at the table with him for the entire school day which is where I had to be when were using the other program. I'm still praying about next year's choice of school books because I am thinking about making changes for some subjects.

Well, Philip will be home soon from the men's dinner at church. I best be off to clean up and get Hannah ready for bed.

  • I've recently checked out the Twitter world...not that I really need to join another social networking site but I was curious about this tweeting business. It is kind of like FB except without all the other games and applications. Currently I'm only following 3 twitterers (whatever you call them) -- The Old Schoolhouse folks, Rocco DiSpirito and an astronaut who is currently up in space and will update his tweets in a round'about sort of way while he's up there. Pretty cool! If any of you twitters, you can meet up with me at PhilandDom99.

I'm wrapping up 2nd/3rd grade with Christian this week and in the process of deciding what curriculum we're going to use for the coming year. We usually start "school" in July so I like to have all my materials ready early rather than wait until the last minute. I'm happy with the math curriculum we chose last year and keeping that is all that has been decided. For everything else I'm going back and forth about whether to continue using Life Pacs or something else. Anyway, I won't bore you guys with the details of my conundrum.

Well, I could write more but it would all be complaining. I'm having a horrible, no good, very bad day and I can't wait for it to be over.

  • More Birthday Celebrations

We had a great time today with my parents and two of my three brothers. My other brother lives way far away in CA and can only make it over here on the holidays. He was missed. Anyway, the rest of the family drove over from Orlando to visit with us and celebrate Hannah's birthday.

001 This type of photograph is typical of our family gatherings.

012 Hannah has a bag of play hair extensions in her hand. She was unsure what to do with them and didn't want them in her ponytail.

029 So my youngest bro. decided to break them in for her.

Having them over was a nice way to wrap up the week! So now our home is filled with princess shoes, dress up clothes and plastic jewelry along with legos, bionicle pieces and army men. How different it was five years ago when Christian was three! His third birthday was Thomas the Tank Engine and our house was filled with wooden train tracks, little trains and lots of trucks. I don't even want to think about life in five years with Christian being 13 and Hannah being 8. It seems so far away but I'm sure it will be here before I know it.

The transition from diaper to toilet has gone suprisingly well. I really can't believe it. I keep waiting for a setback or something. Since her accomplishment on Tuesday night, she hasn't had a single accident. She did ask if I could put her back in diapers yesterday because she was having difficulty with her # 2 business but after some prayer and encouragment she was successful in doing what she needed to do on her little toilet. We have managed errands, going out to eat, public restrooms and church activities with her wearing underwear. This is certainly not the same girl I worked with on Tuesday! I'm so proud of her! I still use diapers for nighttime but I have confidence that night habits will be mastered eventually. At this point in time I am not going to invest too much effort in trying to get her in underwear for the night. I'm just happy with the progress we've made so far and I want to be sure it is solid progress before we venture into new territory.

It is hard to believe that the month of May is here! We'll be finishing up school soon and I'm looking forward to the break summertime has to offer us. I have yet to register Christian with the school district in our new county. That is definitely on my to-do list for next week since we're almost done with school and I want to have him evaluated and officially signed off on 2nd grade before July. Anyway, I have a lot on my mind in regards to homeschooling but that's for another post!

I'm off to bed. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

  • Birthday celebrations and habit changes...

Hannah's 3rd birthday was on Monday! She has been waiting for her birthday since Christian's birthday in December, so she was quite delighted that it was finally her turn to hear happy birthday and open presents. I'll try to post some pictures. My parents and brothers are coming over from Orlando on Friday and we'll have a little celebration with them. And maybe then we'll have some family shots.

I just love her utter glee in daddy giving her kisses and lovin!
This was all Hannah ate of her cupcake -- the top part with the frosting.
Christian the prince helping her majesty with her shoes. The garbage looks on with wonder...
This is actually a High School Musical dress that I found in the clearance rack. But Hannah doesn't know that...I told her it was Cinderella's summer dress that's just perfect for hot summer days.
    My precious family!

And now that Hannah is three, I informed her on her b-day that starting the next day, she would be wearing panties. Enough is enough already! It is time to make the change from diaper to toilet. She's quite capable of using the toilet but I think she doesn't want to because it is so much more convenient for her to pee and poop on the go rather than stop her activity and use the bathroom. Yesterday was our first day using underwear and our first accident was a poopy one. She was quite upset but I think it made a difference that I remained calm. Much of the day consisted of accidents and I'm surprised I was able to accomplish as much as I did around the house! She was successful at the end of the day and wow how that victory boosted her confidence! This morning she also managed to make it to the toilet in time. I'm sure more accidents are to come and I know a big hurdle will be doing #2 in the toilet. We have yet to accomplish that but I'm sure that will come in time. One thing is for sure, I am confident that by the end of this year, she will be well along in her toileting habits.

Well Hannah is sitting on her little potty now so I best be off to help her.

  • Oh, I forgot to tell you, yes, Amanda is out of diapers. I forget how long it's been now. It took about a month I think to train her. I am not sure though. It's so nice to be a diaper free house. I've been getting rid of all our baby toys and baby gear, too, and that's been nice (though, slightly
